Café Crêpe: A Union of Nutella and Crêpe

Nutella, Fresh Strawberry with a hint of Cognac (w/ side of coffee ice cream)
Nutella, Banana (w/ side of coffee ice cream)
What: Crêpes with Nutella
When: August 30, 2010
Where: 874 Granville St, Vancouver, BC CANADA
Other locations: Vancouver, BC; Toronto, Ontario; Santa Monica, California

Story behind the pictures: I had a friend who did a road trip with her friends from Edmonton to  Vancouver this past summer. We were looking for a place to have dessert before celebrating a cousin of a friend's birthday at a club on a Monday night. Café Crêpe was one of the few dessert-like places open at night. I had been here before during the day so I knew the crêpes would be delicious. However, I was also pleasantly surprised to find that this place is pretty popular at night. We randomly met the birthday girl and her other friends there. I found out that having a beer or martini with your crêpe is an option, turning a daytime snack to a fancy night time dessert. Just goes to show that you learn something new each time you revisit a place! And of course, how can anyone say "no" to Nutella?

When hunger sets in...Nutella will save you!

Last Breakfast in Indonesia: My version of the Banana Jaffle. (add nutella!)

Part 1: obtain banana jaffle and jar of nutella

Part 2: smother nutella on banana jaffle...and eat...

Part 3: all done!!!

What: Banana Jaffle with Nutella
When: August 4, 2010
Where: Okie House, Poppies Lane II, Kuta, Bali, Indonesia

Story behind the picture: This idea came up when I realized that the breakfasts that come with your hotel room in Kuta are not as filling as what you will get in Padangbai or Gili Trawangan. This was my third morning in Kuta. On our first day in Kuta, Alev and I had to go to McDonald's at 10:30 am because I was still hungry after having banana jaffle and tea for breakfast. Alev had a sundae and I had a chicken nugget happy meal...clearly banana jaffle was not enough! Having gone a second day where had to find food soon after breakfast and seeing other travelers supplement their free breakfast, on my third day I remembered I had Nutella which my awesome Aussie friend had bestowed on me (thanks Katherine). Also, being all by myself that day (Alev left a day before me) I chose to be adventurous and bring my Nutella to the breakfast area. Because really, what would go better on sliced bananas pressed between two pieces of toast (banana jaffle) than nutella? As you can see from above, it was delicious!

Nutella Beach Snack!

"Preparing our lunchsnacks, with Nutella from Yogya" - Photo credits: Alev Karasu

What: Nutella sandwich (on Indonesian bread)
When: July 26, 2010
Where: Mustika Sari Beach Hotel, Padangbai, Bali, Indonesia

Story behind the picture: What to pack when going on a beach adventure? Why not a nutella sandwich? And why not with local food? (relatively speaking)

Katherine, my awesome Aussie roommate during the summer course was so generous to give me, Alev, and Sarah the leftover snack food we had bought while in Yogyakarta. It was the perfect present for the start of our Bali adventures, especially since we ended up at a beach in the middle of nowhere :P

Note: The nutella was meant to go on s'mores during our Kaliurang "camping trip" at the summer course, but we couldn't find marshmallows in Indonesia :( ... but look forward to a post when we do make them!
